Why PAT Test?
PAT Testing ensures that the appliances you use in your workplace are safe for use. Every year over 1000 incidents of electric shock and around 30 deaths happen in UK workplaces. If this happened in your workplace without your electricals having been PAT tested then you could be liable.
Some insurance companies insist upon regular PAT testing and you could invalidate your insurance by not adopting a regular PAT Testing regime.
What is PAT Testing?
Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) involves safety testing all electrical equipment that has a plug. This includes both 230v and 110v appliances and may include items such as lamps, TV's, cash tills, PC's, hand tools, kitchen appliances etc.
The electrical tests on each item will include an insulation and leakage test for class 2 appliances (those without an earth connection) and on class 1 appliances the continuity to earth will also be tested. In addition to this visual tests are completed to ensure cables, casing, fuses, plugs and their wiring are all in good safe order.
